People who refuse to vaccinate are apparently intentionally trying to infect themselves with the corona virus again and again.

Whether it’s a corona party or a one-on-one meeting: what are the motives?

Cologne – “Corona* parties”: celebrations where people consciously want to get infected with the corona virus.

The police have repeatedly broken up such parties in the past.

It seems absurd, because the parties are not without danger.

Statistically, after a corona party, ten percent of those infected would have a more severe course, and one to two percent would become seriously ill, doctor Jörg Lohse told

*.

A 55-year-old Austrian died after an intentional infection *.

So why do some people take this risk?

Intentional corona infection: people ask infection partners in Telegram groups

Corona parties are not only on a large scale with 50 guests. Private attempts at infection for two are also popular, as RTL now shows in an experiment. A reporter posed as an infected person in an open Telegram group. The inquiries about the infection probably followed promptly. "Hello, I'm interested in getting infected" or "I live too far away, would you also send chopsticks?" were the questions. RTL also shows WhatsApp messages from open groups. People are looking for corona-positive people for all possible districts and cities. One message even mentions an expense allowance.

These inquiries are not only passed on to the reporter.

A private individual who had been infected with the corona virus also said that she had already received such a request.

"I would blame myself for the rest of my life if she got infected from me and she might get a severe course," says the infected person in an interview.

Two of those willing to be infected were willing to speak to the broadcaster.

Intentional corona infection: what are the reasons behind it?

Why do people want to be infected voluntarily? "I still see it as an experiment," a woman told RTL about the vaccination. However, she works in a nursing profession. From March 16th, a facility-specific vaccination* will apply in medical and nursing facilities in Germany. "I'm afraid for my job from mid-March and I wrote to her and asked if I could get infected so I could get a certificate of recovery," said the woman. When asked if she wasn't afraid of a severe course, she replies: "It's dangerous what we're doing, but unfortunately the nursing staff don't know what else to do and accept the risk, a small percentage of which is difficult to get sick.” She doesn’t think she is endangering others by doing so.She is tested daily at work and if she knows she is infected, she will isolate herself.

More and more people are being tested positive by Omikron.

But some people want to achieve just that.

Why?

In addition, the vaccine from Novavax* should be increasingly available to nursing staff.

This is not produced using mRNA technology.

Intentional corona infection: Legal consequences are also possible

A second person who was willing to get infected* and responded to the request in the experiment gave the following reasons: "It's just a cold virus" and he had never heard of anyone in perfect health who had the virus "from the life was ripped,” it says.

He is worried about what the vaccination will do to society and is therefore not getting vaccinated.

"I'm young, not previously ill, so why should I get vaccinated at all?" he asks.

The truth, sadly, is different. Again and again there are reports of severe courses and long phases in the intensive care unit in young people*. It can even affect young people, as the beginning of the pandemic showed. And Long-Covid is also a danger that can be reduced by vaccination, says a vaccination doctor at RTL.

Corona parties are a game with a dangerous virus, but there can also be legal consequences, explains Nicole Mutschke in the experiment.

It could be seen as physical harm with consent, like at the dentist, "but if the whole thing is against good morals, then it doesn't work," says Mutschke.

In the case of overburdened hospitals, one could certainly argue that way.

Ultimately, the decision rests with the courts.

And even if the number of people willing to be infected in the experiment seemed large due to the number of Telegram messages, it is only a small part of the population.

A total of 73.5 percent in Germany are now basic immunized with two vaccinations.

50.8 percent received a booster.
