The corona vaccination card gives you a lot of freedom to travel in Europe.

However, the period of validity has been shortened in many countries – in some cases even more than recommended.

A valid vaccination certificate is a prerequisite for uncomplicated travel in many places during the corona pandemic.

In most countries one is considered "fully vaccinated" 14 days after the primary vaccination.

However, as far as the duration of validity is concerned, the measures in many countries differ.

The EU Commission recommends that a vaccination certificate should expire after 270 days (nine months)* and Germany has also adjusted its rules accordingly – previously the vaccination certificate should be valid for twelve months.

But some countries have long since adopted stricter measures.

In addition, different rules apply when entering the country than in the country itself.

Vaccination pass validity in Austria: Stricter rules in the country than when entering the country

For quarantine-free entry to Austria, people must be vaccinated or have recovered and be able to prove an additional PCR test or booster.

The vaccination certificate is still valid here for 270 days.

But the rules are different for the so-called

Green Passport in Austria: This is

only valid for 180 days

from February 1st after the first series of vaccinations (two vaccinations or recovery + one vaccination)

.

The vaccination certificate of the booster vaccination is valid for 270 days, as stated on Austria's health portal.

Since the 2G rule applies in many areas of public life in Austria, travelers whose basic immunization was more than 180 days ago could have problems.

Denmark: Beware of the validity of the vaccination card

Denmark requires all travelers to have a negative PCR test no more than 72 hours old or a rapid antigen test no more than 48 hours old.

Children under the age of 15 and the convalescent are excluded.

This means that people who have been vaccinated must also be tested.

According to the Danish authorities, the vaccination card is valid for up to 270 days after the basic immunization.

In the country itself, however, things are different: Anyone who wants to visit a restaurant or use public transport with a vaccination card, for example, must be able to prove that it is not older than five months.

Stricter rules apply than when entering the country

.

When did the Corona vaccination card expire in France?

Since mid-December, people over the age of 65 in France have had to be boosted

no later than seven months after the basic immunization

in order to continue to be allowed to keep the status "vaccinated".

Since January 15, this has also applied to all other travelers aged 18 and over.

This means that the period of validity is shorter than recommended by the EU.

These vaccination card rules apply in Greece

In Greece, everyone over the age of 60 must have been boosted to maintain vaccination status since mid-December.

From February 1st, this will apply to all locals

no later than seven months after the last vaccination dose

.

This also has consequences for travellers: While entry into Greece is permitted with a vaccination certificate that is no more than 270 days old,

holidaymakers in the country have to follow the same rules as the locals

.

So where the 2G rule applies - for example in gastronomy - tourists are not allowed in if the vaccination certificate is older than seven months.

This also has consequences for restaurant visits, a hotel stay or the use of public transport: 2G applies here.

Digital Covid certificate: EU wants uniform rules

Only on Tuesday (January 25) did the EU countries decide that the digital Covid certificate in the EU should be more important than the infection process in the country of departure.

As part of this agreement, it was also said that a vaccination card should be valid for 270 days.

It remains to be seen whether the individual member states, which previously decided on stricter rules, will now relax their measures again.
