Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed during a phone call with his American counterpart Anthony Blinken today that regional security cannot be ensured by strengthening and expanding military blocs and alliances.

China's Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Wang called on Blinken to take Russia's reasonable security concerns seriously.

The Chinese foreign minister called on the United States to stop interfering in the upcoming Winter Olympics to be hosted by Beijing and to stop playing with fire over the Taiwan issue.

For his part, US State Department spokesman Ned Price announced that Blinken stressed during the phone call that de-escalation and diplomacy are the way forward.

Price said Blinken stressed to his Chinese counterpart "the global security and economic risks that Russian aggression against Ukraine could pose," he said.

Yesterday, US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan handed Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko a written response from the US administration to the draft bilateral treaty on security guarantees previously presented by the Russian side.

NATO continues to mobilize its military forces and conduct maneuvers along the border with Russia, in addition to sending huge shipments of weapons to the Ukrainian army, while ignoring Russian calls for an agreement on mutual security guarantees.
