The JNF Archive reveals for the first time moving images of snow in the capital, from the days of the British Mandate to the first decades of the country

In honor of the snow in Jerusalem and on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the Jewish National Fund, the JNF's photo archive today (Thursday) reveals for the first time historical photos of snow in the capital.

The photos show in part sights that are no longer from the British Mandate period and from the first decades after the establishment of the state in the city's familiar sites.

Efrat Sinai, director of the JNF's photo archive: "The expected snow in Jerusalem is a good opportunity to remember Jerusalem of yesteryear.

In these moving images that we first reveal from the 1930s to 1960s, one can see the familiar sites of the capital, covered in white.

From the walls of the Old City to the Knesset.

You can feel from the photos the great joy of the city's residents about the event. "

The stairs were built during the Mandate by the British, against the background of the events, to allow Jews safe access to the Western Wall.

The stairs were destroyed by the Jordanians who paved in their place a road leading to the Garbage Gate - the same road that exists today.
