After the suspension of the hotspot regulation, the high incidence value initially has no effect on the corona restrictions.

Hospital occupancy also remains at a low level.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen

– January 26th is a historic day for the district. Certainly not in a positive way, though. After almost two years of the corona crisis in the region, the seven-day incidence exceeded the 1000 mark on Wednesday. The Robert Koch Institute has been reporting 1012.7 for the district since the early hours of the morning. For the first time, this indicator has a four-digit range. At the same time, the number of omicron cases in the district rose to 1,032 on Wednesday. Within just six weeks, this variant has overtaken all previous mutations of the virus (alpha and delta from previous waves) in terms of the number of cases.

But despite all these negative numbers, there is no chaos.

"We take the steadily increasing corona numbers in our district very seriously and will continue to do our best to do our part to fight the pandemic," says district administrator Anton Speer (free voters).

But he points to an important factor in this pandemic: the numbers in the hospitals.

On that Wednesday, the lowest occupancy figures for a long time were reported.

Only ten patients are admitted to the district clinics, two of them were treated in an intensive care unit.

"We have a very active incidence of infection across the district, but we can consider ourselves lucky that this trend has not yet been reflected in our clinic," says Speer.

Vaccination rate and progressive epidemic ensure currently low numbers in the clinics

According to local experts, the fact that the number of hospitalizations remains so low is due on the one hand to the number of vaccinations that have now been achieved in the particularly vulnerable groups of people and on the other hand to a certain level of contagion, which is indirectly driven forward by the large number of infections.

Bavarian politics is also currently reacting calmly to the high incidences: the hotspot rule, which would mean extensive closures if the value is over 1000, remains suspended – in any case until February 9th.

In Speer's eyes, the right way: "From today's perspective, the decision of the Bavarian state government is correct."
