The mood in the Irschenberger gym was a balancing act for the town hall.

However, the external guests found themselves in the most difficult position: the company Hafner Beton.

Irschenberg – The company Hafner Beton, represented by four employees, has submitted an application for gravel quarrying in Irschenberg.

Managing director Heimo Berger - suit, Austrian dialect - appealed to remain objective.

"We know about the concerns of the citizens." But: The construction industry is the backbone of the economy as a whole.

"It serves everyone, because everyone needs gravel." It would always be best in the next community, said the managing director.

Probably one of the few points on which he agreed with the 70 admitted guests.

Far more would have come;

admission was limited due to the pandemic.

Berger presented the application in key data with a geologist, the technical manager and an ecologically responsible employee.

The family business with 35 employees, belonging to the Leube Group in Salzburg, is based in Bruckmühl (Rosenheim district).

24 removals of 15 cubic meters each are planned on 180 days a year.

Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

According to the company's plan, the extraction of the 440,000 cubic meters of gravel at an average depth of around 11.5 meters would be possible in just under seven years.

In addition, there are eight months of preparation time.

After ten years everything will look the same as before;

filled with "unpolluted excavation without foreign matter".

According to the geologist, this would bring an advantage.

The soil is currently heavily contaminated with sulfite - "probably from agriculture".

This would not be tolerated when backfilling.

The area would later be used for agriculture again.

"But the owner is thinking about extensive agriculture with dry meadows," said the geologist.

But that is in the hands of the owner.

According to Berger, there is no blast during the dismantling itself, which is why there are no vibrations. A wheel loader and a crawler excavator are planned. The transport journeys – three trucks per hour in each direction – take place via three routes in order to relieve local residents. The conversation was about the journey from Oberhasling via the MB 18 to the motorway exit at the Seehamer See rest area. Alternatively, you can get to the A 8 from Oberhasling via the Auerschmiede, the Großschwaig stud farm and the B 472. The third possibility would be to use the MB 18 to Bruck (municipality of Weyarn) in order to get to Bruckmühl via Feldkirchen-Westerham. The empty trips back take place via the town of Irschenberg.

In terms of road wear, Irschenberg's mayor, Klaus Meixner (CSU), emphasized: "We have nothing in our hands." But: The Hafner company is open to voluntary participation in the rehabilitation costs in the event of excessive wear.

The mining area is to be gradually backfilled in four stages from north to south.

Oberhasling is to be screened off by a three meter high wall and planting.

Among other things, those present were disturbed by the number of trips.

A citizen calculated that 24 transports plus the return trip would be 48.

The number had to be doubled because of the filling: 96 trips per day.

The action of the community was also controversial.

When was the town hall informed about the project?

The geologist dated the first test prospecting to summer 2019.

Meixner explained: "After the initial contact, we said that they should first check what is even possible.

Then we'll talk more.” In the meantime, the topic was on heap.

A local resident strongly criticized this: The company "can dismantle with us because they missed drawing up a land use plan".

Why?

"That would only shift the problem," Meixner said.

But wouldn't another spot be better?

"There are hardly any other places," said building authority manager Michael Fellner.

Hardly - or one or the other?

"I'm not a geologist," says Fellner.

And: "Nothing is shown in the land use plan." A designation would open the door to other pits, according to Meixner.

Why was no change ban granted for the current area?

This is no longer permissible as negative planning.

So it was already too late here.

Ultimately, the district office determined that the construction project was possible.

The municipality asked the lawyer – there was no income.

In relation to the demand for legal advice, Fellner criticized: "Why is our competence so questioned?" It's not about competence, it's about information, countered a citizen.

"That has a sense somewhere," Meixner said of the situation.

Going public earlier was not an option for him – at that time the project was still too unclear.
