Rental bikes will soon be available here: the municipality is planning a station with ten MVG bikes in the station area.

In addition, a second station will be built in the commercial area if the companies there also pay.

The quartet is complete: Otterfing will be there when the “MVG-Rad” bicycle rental system is introduced in the north of the district this year.

A permanent station is planned at Otterfinger Bahnhof, and there could be another one in the commercial area - if the companies contribute to the costs.

Otterfing

– There is a one-off start-up financing of 40,000 euros, nothing more for the time being: The district of Miesbach supports the initiative of the northern communities of Holzkirchen, Otterfing, Valley and Weyarn to dock their own stations with the rental bike system of the Munich Transport Company (MVG) established in the district of Munich.

Unlike the district of Munich, which also bears half of the operating costs, Miesbach refuses any further financial help.

For this reluctance, the district in the Otterfingen municipal council meeting on Tuesday received some criticism.

Nevertheless, the committee stuck to the basic decision of 2021 to bring the MVG bike into the community.

"In this way we create an alternative to road traffic," said Mayor Michael Falkenhahn (SPD).

The cost estimate is based on two locations for the MVG wheels.

If both are built, the municipality has to contribute around 9,500 euros from its own budget.

A fixed station for ten bicycles is planned in the area of the bicycle parking facilities on the southern station car park;

Users register via the app, look for a bike, receive a PIN code and thus unlock the rental bike.

Billing is based on time.

The minute costs five cents, the day twelve euros.

Borrowing across community boundaries is encouraged

The administration in the commercial area can imagine a second, smaller station (stele) for five wheels. "Bikes can only be borrowed and returned at these two points in the community," stressed Hubert Zellner, head of the building authority; it is not a "free-floating" model, which allows the bikes to be parked anywhere. However, the MVG bike stations elsewhere can be used freely, and the communities in the pilot project would even like this inter-communal network.

The construction costs for the two Otterfinger locations amount to 45,500 euros.

State funding covers 24,850 euros, 10,000 euros is borne by the district, and another 1,250 euros are donated by ESB.

Around 9500 euros remain at the expense of the municipal treasury.

In addition, however, there are annual operating costs - the pilot project will initially run for five years - of around 7,000 euros at the station and 5,000 euros in the industrial park, which the companies represented there should take over.

"A large employer has already signaled interest," reported Falkenhahn.

This station should only be built if there are enough commitments.

"If the bikes are often borrowed, the operating cost payments to the MVG are of course reduced," emphasized the mayor.

Criticism of half-hearted support from the district

"It's still too expensive for me," said Gerhard Heimerer (CSU).

Unfortunately, the district participate only half-heartedly.

"I'm disappointed that there isn't more money available for the north of the district," complained Robert Schüßlbauer (CSU).

The district does not pay because rental bikes are not one of its obligatory tasks, believes Josef Killer (FWG): "That also applies to us." With Heimerer, Schüßlbauer and Georg Schlickenrieder (CSU) he voted against the project.

"We spend so much on roads," said Thomas Hogger (Greens), "then we should also try out whether the MVG wheels work." The amount is manageable, added Max Ruf (SPD).

"If we want to support the turnaround in traffic, we have to dare something," said Andreas Eichhorn (SPD).

Zellner noted that the rental bike system could partially compensate for the call collection taxi (AST) that is no longer needed in the north of the district.

"I don't think so," said Ulrike Stockmeier (FLO), "the AST is more used by older people, who can't switch to bikes that easily."
