New population statistics for Freising: Domstadt has "shrunk" slightly in the past year

The city of Freising recorded a decrease in citizenship by 262 people compared to 2021.

The latest population statistics for Freising clearly show that the cathedral city had 262 fewer citizens as of January 1 of this year - and the majority are single.

– Numbers, numbers, numbers: These are the population statistics for the district town of Freising, which, like every year, are made public in January. A finding from the most recent publication of the Statistical Information Service: Even if the total population in the city of Freising has grown by 4232 residents (9.1 percent) compared to January 1, 2012, there has been a decrease of 262 people compared to the previous year .
As of January 1, 2022, 50,718 people live in Freising.
Of these, 49,235 have their main residence in the cathedral city, and 1,483 have a secondary residence.
39,501 citizens have German citizenship, 11,217 are listed as foreigners in the statistics.
Striking: Compared to ten years ago, the number of residents with German citizenship has fallen by 389, while the number of those with foreign citizenship has increased by 4621 (70.1 percent) in the same period.
The largest group of residents with foreign citizenship are Turks (1203).
893 Croats live in Freising, 729 Romanians, 521 Bosnians, followed by 510 Hungarians and 508 Italians.
The districts
The list of the largest districts is headed by Lerchenfeld with 13,228 inhabitants, followed by the city center (12,115), the north of Freising (9,268), Neustift (6,854) and Vötting (2,852).
Pulling with its 1571 citizens is the most populous district, followed by Attaching with 1042 inhabitants, Sünzhausen (857), Hohenbachern (570) and Tüntenhausen (500).
The marital status
24,852 residents of Freising are single, 19,763 are listed as married.
2,304 citizens are widowed, 3,337 are divorced, 429 are considered separated, and there are also 33 civil partnerships.

The age structure
The age structure of Freising's population is as follows: The 19 to 65 year olds make up the largest proportion at 34,896.
7247 Freising residents are 66 years and older.
1938 residents belong to the category of the smallest (zero to three years), 1400 are between four and six years old, 3843 fall into the category of seven to 15 year olds, 1394 are between 16 and 18 years old.
The baby boomers are those between 1991 and 2000 (9174), between 1961 and 1970 (7658) and between 1981 and 1990 (7527).
287 citizens of Freising were born between 1920 and 1930, between 1931 and 1940 2022 residents of Freising were born.
The religion
And what about religious affiliation?
Only around 40 percent of Freising's population belong to the Roman Catholic Church - namely 20,354. There are currently 4,869 Protestants, 390 are Evangelical-Lutheran, and 260 Greek-Orthodox citizens are listed in the statistics.
The largest group under the keyword "religious affiliation" is made up of 24,845 "others" - including those without a religious affiliation.
