Poing – At the beginning of 2011, what was then the school and teaching swimming pool in the old Karl-Sittler-Strasse primary school in Poing-Süd was closed due to structural and hygienic deficiencies.

It then took two years until a follow-up building was discussed and the decision to implement it was made in July 2013.

The cost estimate at the time was 3.5 million euros.

Four years later it became concrete: On April 27, 2017, the municipal council passed the following resolution: A school swimming pool with a pool of 25 mx 12.5 m is to be built at the Gruber Straße location - subject to the approval of the school supervisory authorities.

This was granted on March 13, 2018.

Three years later, in February 2021, the council unanimously approved the construction of the swimming pool and the school canteen, which will be the first to be built. However, this was not planned at all at the beginning and was integrated into the swimming pool project in the last three years due to urgency. This also increased the costs – and Corona came. And not only that: Due to globally disrupted supply chains in the first half of 2021, there were sometimes serious increases in material prices, which had to be taken into account in the cost calculation. In addition, various optimizations and additions were made, which drove the cost calculation upwards. These include a green roof (+ 104,000 euros), Linea facade (+ 41,000 euros) and the cash register system (+ 45,000 euros).

At the municipal council meeting on January 20th, all the additional and reduced costs were presented, which amounts to a total of 16.85 million euros.

This includes construction price increases and risk buffers.

After the detailed presentation by the planners and architects present, the planned photovoltaic system was also discussed.

It is projected with an output of 30 KWp and should cost around 40,000 euros.

According to some councillors, it is too small for the size of the roof.

Peter Mayer (SPD) and Werner Danksreiter (Greens) called for a larger system.

For them, the additional electricity generated could be routed via a line to the Anni Pickert School.

Those responsible for the project advised against this: “The size of the system should only be based on your own needs for the swimming pool and canteen.

to continue the construction measure "replacement of a school swimming pool and new construction of a canteen" and to commission the planners and project management with the next project stage and the further service phases.

"Our schools are finally getting the swimming pool they always wanted," says Thomas Stark, "and numerous clubs can hardly wait any longer."

However, everyone still has to be patient: the swimming pool should be ready in December 2024 - the canteen as early as September.
