The former Keeper of the Seals of François Hollande, Christiane Taubira, who will hold her first public meeting on Thursday, seems to be the favorite in this ballot to which she has promised to comply, unlike her three main competitors, the rebellious Jean- Luc Mélenchon, the ecologist Yannick Jadot and the socialist Anne Hidalgo, who claimed, in vain, that their names be withdrawn.

In addition to these four candidates, voters also have the choice between MEP Pierre Larrouturou and two people from civil society, Charlotte Marchandise and Anna Agueb-Porterie, preselected like the others during a first stage of sponsorship in October.

The left currently has five main presidential candidates - Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Yannick Jadot, Anne Hidalgo, Fabien Roussel (PCF), and Christiane Taubira - without any of them seeming, according to current polls, in a position to compete with the rights and Emmanuel Macron in the first round of the presidential election on April 10.

The vote for the primary, which will take place online, will close on Sunday at 5 p.m., and the result will be made public around 6:30 p.m. Only the 466,895 people registered in the primary can vote.

The ballot will be in a single round, by

"majority judgment"

, that is to say that voters must evaluate and rank the candidates by answering this question:

"To win ecology and social justice in presidential election, I believe that each of these personalities would be..."

.

They must give each candidate a rating:

"Very good, Good, Fairly good, Fair, Insufficient"

.

The same mention can be used for several candidates.

“The personality best appreciated by a majority wins the

, explained the organizers.

But to receive the investiture and the militant support of the Popular Primary, the winner must commit to

"include, at a minimum, the spirit of the Common Base

(a programmatic base prepared last year, editor's note)

in his program"

and to

"promote unity"

with the other candidates.

Otherwise, the primary will not support anyone.
