Take a rental bike from the train station to the Jexhof, take a rental bike from the town center to the train station – Schöngeising wants to expand the range of car-free mobility.

Schöngeising – As part of a district-wide project, the municipality is involved in setting up so-called mobility stations.

The mobility stations are to be built at the train station and at the town hall and each offer three rental bikes.

The municipal council had already passed a corresponding decision in principle in 2019.

Now the project is "going into a very hot phase", as Martin Imkeller, employee of the public transport department in the district office, said in the most recent municipal council meeting.

The district was awarded the contract as part of a nationwide funding program and must submit a detailed application for funding by the end of February.

The approval of the communities is now being sought for this.

The grants should amount to 80 percent of the costs incurred in setting up the mobility stations.

In the case of Schöngeising, that would be around 35,000 euros from the state.

Five-year trial period

Operating costs are not funded.

Imkeller put this at a maximum of 45,000 euros net, spread over a project period of five years.

"But it will probably be much cheaper," he said.

The reason: The city of Munich, which has so far used the "MVG-Rad" system, will make a reallocation.

As a result, cost savings can be achieved from which the district of Bruck can also benefit, says Imkeller.

Because the same system is to be introduced here as in the state capital, so that the rental bikes can be used in the entire MVV area without any problems.

Gerhard Gauck (SPD) thought the concept made sense in an urban environment, but not in a rural community like Schöngeising.

“If someone wants to ride a bike here, they have their own.” Above all, Gauck found the operating costs too high.

Wilhelm Hörger (Free Voters/FW) made a similar statement.

The prospect of funding is tempting, "but what are the follow-up costs we can expect?"

rental fees

Martin Imkeller from the public transport department explained that maintenance and service costs were already included in the calculation.

In addition, the municipalities and cities would receive the rental fees paid by the users.

Planned prices are five cents per minute for holders of MVV season tickets and eight cents per minute for everyone else.

It is even conceivable that e-bikes could also be offered in addition to conventional bikes.

For Schöngeising's Mayor Thomas Totzauer (FW), the mobility stations are not primarily about money anyway.

"They are an additional building block in the mobility concept, which also includes our e-car sharing." The aim is to reduce motorized private transport or make it more environmentally friendly.

Deputy Mayor and parliamentary group colleague Thomas Betz wants to “take the citizens by the hand” with the project in terms of an energy and transport transition.

With three dissenting votes, the decision was made to participate in the district's funding application as part of a municipal merger.

All other municipalities were and are asked who is participating.
