Sometimes happy in other rooms of the house, the mess can be a real handicap in the kitchen, with the consequence of discouraging us from cooking up good homemade dishes.
Five minutes to take out the gratin dish, a wok that hasn't seen the light of day since 2003 or even a pile of pans that are collapsing are all warning signs to rethink its organization.
You're not a Marie Kondo at heart?
Do not panic, Olivia Toja, author of

Book that will simplify your daily life
(2) review all the steps for optimized storage.
1. Sort
First step, sorting out to declutter the cupboards. “You have to part with what is useless, duplicate, never used. If you only make pancakes on Candlemas, it may not be worth keeping a dedicated device, ”begins Céline Copier. If they are not useful on a daily basis, small appliances must be used regularly to have their place in our cupboards. "Gadgets are sometimes very attractive, but experience shows that only basic devices are useful," adds Olivia Toja. When it comes to dishes, our experts are unanimous: we get rid of things that are chipped, too heavy and too old. "Like the brown Pyrex bowls, which in my opinion, no longer have their place today," says Olivia Toja. Likewise,“We can get rid of plates and glasses of which only two survivors remain without regret,” adds Céline Copier.
2. Reorganize closets
A good method to gain space and visibility on a daily basis, “exchange packaging for boxes and transparent jars”, advises Céline Copier.
Convenient for pasta, sugar, flour and anything that can stay open for a long time.
A useful device to guarantee better preservation of food.
Then think of a thematic storage, with a shelf for the salty and another for the sweet.
"With special corners for breakfast, baking or even a special drawer for children's snacks," adds Olivia Toja.
3. Save space without work
It is not always possible to do work at home due to lack of space or budget.
Fortunately, there are a few tips to easily optimize your kitchen.
“Think of the last shelf in cupboards, too high for daily use, it is ideal for storing household appliances that are used occasionally or crockery for special occasions.
A small stepladder or a step stool stored not too far away will provide easy access.
You can also invest in a small piece of furniture on wheels for bottles and fruit and vegetables”, list Céline Copier.
4. The "least inconvenience" method
And what about the famous mess drawer, present in all kitchens?
This space where pieces of string, corkscrews, orphan buttons and matchboxes happily coexist?
“Let’s save a place for that!
Regular sorting seems sufficient to me,” reassures Olivia Toja.
And for the most manic among us, “we can organize this mess by creating four zones with boxes”, concludes Céline Copier.
