Spotify Says It Will Pull Neil Young's Music, Reports Say

Spotify will no longer stream Neil Young's music.

Just in case, he asked for it.

A day after the musician expressed in a now-deleted post on his official website that he no longer wanted his music on the platform because of its connection to divisive podcast host Joe Rogan's comments on covid-19 vaccines, the company says which meets Young's request.

"We want all the music and audio content in the world to be available to Spotify users. That comes with a huge responsibility when it comes to balancing both the safety of listeners and the freedom of creators," a Spotify spokesperson said. to The Washington Post in a statement.

In his post, Young called on his managers and record label to remove his music from Spotify because, according to him, the music and podcast platform is "spreading false information about vaccines, potentially killing those who believe in this spread misinformation." for them".

On his podcast, Rogan has made frequent false and inaccurate claims about vaccines and COVID-19.

Earlier this month, a group of more than 250 scientists, doctors and nurses wrote an open letter to Spotify condemning the streamer for putting Rogan on the platform and asking the company to warn its listeners about the misinformation.

"The Joe Rogan Experience" was Spotify's most popular podcast globally in 2021, according to Variety.

It became a Spotify exclusive in 2020, when Rogan signed a multi-year exclusive license agreement with the streaming service.
