Three Houston police officers were shot and wounded during a confrontation with a gunman that stemmed from a police pursuit Thursday afternoon.
Local authorities said the officers
were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in stable condition
.
Houston police are searching for the man, who fled in a white Mercedes after shooting at officers.

Authorities have cordoned off an area near Lockwood Drive where the man is believed to have barricaded himself.

The KPRC station, an affiliate of our sister network NBC News, reported that several shots had been heard and that the policemen who were on the scene could be seen pulling weapons from inside their patrol cars.
Live video from another location where the suspect also opened fire showed a patrol car with its windows apparently shattered by gunfire, according to the station.
