In the video: Roman Samson on the success of the book "The Back Kitchen" (Editing: Gilad Manheim)

"I never thought I would write; I never wrote in a drawer and in fact I never wrote until five years ago."

It all started five years ago, when Roman Samson decided it was time to find a new occupation.

Fate wished and of all the options she faced she chose a writing workshop, and five years later she had already won the Sapphire Prize for Literature for 2021 for the great book she wrote "The Back Kitchen".

"I went to a writing workshop to find myself another area of interest and something opened up," she reveals.

"In the workshop I had already written the back kitchen, but I had no idea it would be published that way."

"I already knew what the book would be about in the first pages" (Photo: screenshot, screenshot)

The back kitchen tells the story of a small beach town that publishes a tender to build apartments for young couples - an initiative in which everyone has high hopes until it stops because of the intrigues that preceded it.

Throughout the book, colorful figures emerge such as a charismatic mayor, a young lawyer who hopes to get involved in local politics, and the city's legal counsel, whose co-workers do not divulge what is going on in her home.

"When I started, I already knew in the first pages what the book would be about," she continues.

"I knew more or less the story, the setting, probably the place where it takes place. I work in the legal service at the municipality so I know the atmosphere, the corridors and some of the characters, but of course everything is imaginary. But it happened to them. "

"The book was written in something like a year and a half. Then the corona spread that delayed its publication by almost a year," Roman Samson noted, revealing: "I really enjoyed writing and I continue to write. "In addition, I have another book that is almost finished and deals with slightly different topics." "If I have a

formula? No, I really do not know what makes a book a good book. Many times while writing I felt that the characters do what they want and the plot does not always develop where I direct it," she adds.

Of the Lottery: "It is much more than a small gift, it is a very nice and very respectable amount of money. I was very excited to receive it, I did not think that what I write would mature into a book, would not be published and certainly would not be nominated or won.It was very surprising and very exciting and it gives a very good sense of appreciation and recognition for literature.
