Valentine's Day: five love nests for a romantic weekend near Paris

2022-01-27T06:12:13.547Z

There's nothing better to declare your love or rekindle it than having a candlelit dinner, toasting by the fireplace, sleeping under a canopy. Cliché and blue flower perhaps but so pleasant. Five addresses tested head-to-head and in preview. In love, of course.

Domaine de Primard: love is in the meadow

Where is it ?

One hour by train or car west of Paris, between Anet and Giverny.

The pitch:

the former property of Peau d'âne, alias Catherine Deneuve, has been playing starry country mansions for several months.

Surrounded by the Eure, encamped between park and pastures, the 18th century residence has 39 rooms and suites behind its Directoire facades and in its outbuildings.

Swans, geese, ducks draw circles in the water.

Red cows from the Highlands, curly black sheep from Ouessant, donkeys begging for hugs, horses ready to gallop cohabit smoothly on hectares of gourmet grass.

A beautiful escape, between an ultra-cosy bistro, a tea room in the Napoleon III greenhouse, and the Suzanne Kaufmann organic spa.

The romantic offer:

from February 12 to 19 inclusive, except the night of the 15th. One night in a superior room with breakfast, aperitif at the bar then dinner at the Bistrot d'Octave.

Starter, main course, dessert to choose from the menu, more personal than an imposed menu.

€380 for two.

Domaine de la Corniche: and in the middle flows a river

The Jeannette building offers some of the most romantic rooms in the hotel.

Where is it ?

45 minutes west of Paris, and 15 minutes from Giverny.

The pitch:

Perched on the chalk cliff carved by the river, the charming residence reveals the meanders of the Seine.

Unique panorama, a real plus for this four-star centenary originally built for King Leopold II of Belgium.

The new champagne bar also bears his first name.

Among the 44 rooms scattered in four buildings, prefer those with a view of the Seine, a living, hypnotic picture.

Before succumbing to the starred suggestions of locavore chef Gaëtan Perulli, we visit his vegetable garden, we let go at the Spa Cinq Mondes to sketch a few breaststrokes in the swimming pool then we treat ourselves to a souvenir or even a small piece of furniture at 20, the restaurant where all the decorative elements found in second-hand shops and antique dealers around are for sale.

The romantic offer:

night in a double room, breakfast and minibar, in-room surprises, 1 hour at the Cinq Mondes spa, 1-star locavore menu by chef Gaëtan Perulli at the Panoramique, from €306 for two.

Same offer but dinner at 20, bistro table from €217.

Domain of La Corniche.

Auberge du Jeu de Paume: Cupid's Arrows

A Prestige Room with Terrace, overlooking the park and the national forest.

Where is it ?

North of Paris, accessible by RER or road in 50 minutes.

The pitch:

this 5-star hotel with 92 rooms opens onto the admirable park and the national forest.

Property of Prince the Aga Khan, a long-time patron of the Château de Chantilly, neighbor of the inn, its manager, Nicole Wilms-Kauffmann, cultivates the art of bespoke hospitality.

On request, its staff organizes private tours of the Psyché gallery recounting the tumultuous loves of the beauty and Cupid, of the library, the stables but also of the surrounding thoroughbred farms.

Something to surprise the most jaded of lovers.

Toile de Jouy, reproduction of romantic works, Valmont spa, starred chef, Cupid has clearly deserted the aristocratic residence to touch the hearts of the lovers of the Auberge.

The romantic offer:

the Auberge offers different packages for Valentine's Day with champagne and cocktails at the bar near the fireplace.

Our favorite formula: "Do not disturb" with one night in a double room, breakfast, rose petals, delicacies, dinner of excellence in 7 steps served in your room, free access to the swimming pool and other facilities of the Valmont spa, to the park of the Castle and the Island of Love.

Valid on February 12, 13 and 14.

From €783 for two.

Hôtellerie du Bas-Bréau: to the delight of words

The Hôtellerie du Bas-Bréau is a vintage inn in a former coaching inn from the 18th century.

Where is it ?

To the south, an hour by car from Paris and an hour and a half by train from Montparnasse.

The pitch:

in the heart of the village of Barbizon, adored by pre-Impressionist painters, the former coaching inn and hunting lodge from the 18th century is like a vintage inn.

At the end of the 19th century, Robert Louis Stevenson, a British author, stayed there for three years to write

Treasure Island

.

The very British bar, where a monumental fireplace stands, bears his name.

Tapestry and floral curtains, canopies and subdued lighting in the 20 rooms lend themselves to declarations in verse or prose.

The romantic offer:

night with breakfast, bouquet, six-course gourmet dinner with truffles in majesty.

From €578 for two.

Hôtellerie du Bas Breau, 2 Grande Rue, 77630 Barbizon.

La Grange Saint-Martin: the beauty in the woods and the baron perched

One of the joist bedrooms nestled in the Grange Saint-Martin.

Photo press / La Grange Saint-Martin

Where is it ?

75 km south of Paris by motorway or line R of the Transilien.

The pitch:

hoisted on the heights of the hamlet of Fontaine-le-Port, this 18th century Briard farmhouse has been restored by the Salvan family, mother, father and son.

In the living room, the flames underline the rise of the champagne bubbles.

Topped by joists, two bedrooms and two designer suites lend themselves to marivaudage.

And, in the park, six huts built by Julien, the son, four in the trees and two on the pond attract the boldest.

The spiral staircase of La Chaldette perched five meters high in a century-old oak tree promises seventh heaven.

The Seine crevices not far away and, beyond the forest, Fontainebleau unveils its castle.

The romantic offer:

for fans of the unusual preferring an improvised dinner party with or without the help of a caterer instead of an agreed menu and table.

Régine Salvan will suggest, upstream, if necessary, some epicurean addresses.

From €150 per night for two with breakfast.
