"Stuffed animal army brought along": Tocotronic concert for the album

The band Tocotronic is giving a concert at Club SO36.

Stream instead of party - with a concert due to the corona, the band Tocotronic presented their new album "Nie wieder Krieg" on Friday evening in Berlin, largely without spectators.

The band's twelve-song 13th album had previously been released.

Berlin – A release party was initially planned at the Volksbühne.

Because of the pandemic, it then became a concert with just a few people in the scene club SO36 in Berlin-Kreuzberg.

The hour-long concert was streamed on the Internet and broadcast by the rbb radio station radioeins.

Singer Dirk von Lowtzow, bassist Jan Müller, guitarist Rick McPhail and drummer Arne Zank made the center of the club their stage and played in a circle facing each other.

The rest of the room remained in darkness.

Show elements were also largely missing, only the plush figures known from Tocotronic were placed on amplifiers and microphone stands.

"We brought our whole army of stuffed animals," von Lowtzow said.

Tocotronic has been involved with indie rock for almost three decades.

Despite having largely moved to the capital, the band is still counted among the most important representatives of the intellectual “Hamburg School” along with Blumfeld and Die Sterne.

The last eight records have all placed in the top ten.

From the new album, Tocotronic played the previously released singles "Nie wieder Krieg" and "Jugend ohne Gott gegen Fascismus".

The single "I hate it here", released on Friday, was also in the programme.

In the video for the song, the band lets young acting star Helena Zengel (“System Crasher”) romp through a dinosaur park.

Tocotronic played the song "Hohope" released for the pandemic, as well as "Die Neue Strangekeit", which was written in 1999 and which von Lowtzow described as "almost prophetic" in view of the corona situation.

Other older songs such as "The World Cannot Understand Me Anymore", "Jungfernfahrt" or "Electric Guitar" were also included.

A tour for the new Tocotronic album is planned for March and April.
