Not only the guests from all over the world should feel comfortable in the new Siemens building in Feldafing.

The commitment to nature should be reflected in it.

District - The new Siemens building in Feldafing should contain everything innovative that the topic of building has to offer. “A flagship project of sustainability” is how Oliver Jaroschek from Siemens describes the new training and conference hotel for employees on Lake Starnberg. Instead of the building that has existed since 1972, it is to be erected and be about the same size as before, for around 120 guests. Will it also get an entrance area from the 3D printer?

That's not planned.

But the entrance area of the new production campus in China comes from the 3D printer, says Jaroschek, who coordinates all new Siemens buildings worldwide.

When you are in the building in Feldafing, you should also feel a bit like you are outside, in the 36,000 square meter park area with old oak trees or in the four green inner courtyards.

Glass surfaces should take care of that.

The defining tree population is to remain largely untouched by the demolition and construction work.

For this reason, parts of the building were even coordinated with the tree population during planning.

Sealed outdoor parking spaces are to be broken up and an underground car park built in their place.

The hotel wing is arranged in such a way that the building also protects against the noise of the nearby railway line.

Siemens not only wants to build in Feldafing in a CO2-neutral manner, with recycled or local building materials, but also to run the operation in a CO2-neutral manner - with self-produced renewable energies.

The topic of health will take up more space in the future - with a natural room climate and focal points with regard to biodiversity, inclusion, diversity.

The building will be located roughly where the 50-year-old building is now.

Also with a floor space of around 12,000 square meters.

Until recently, it was not at all clear that the new “Global Leadership Center”, which is frequented by Siemens executives from all over the world, would remain in Feldafing. According to Jaroschek, Berlin was also discussed for a long time due to its good accessibility. In the end, however, the decision was made in favor of Feldafing because of the "emotional bond" and thus for the place where many Siemens executives grew up and where "everyone likes to come". A company with a “creative team” that, despite the lockdown and short-time work, implemented many ideas such as online workshops to keep it running.

Siemens is temporarily looking for alternative accommodation for the interim operation in Feldafing. Because the pandemic has shown that work in the home office can be expanded, but that occasional team meetings are all the more important, explains Siemens press spokesman Bernhard Lott. It is still unclear whether there is a hotel in the area that Siemens temporarily rents out suitable premises.

A year and a half ago, the company decided to rebuild and make the building sustainable.

After all, Siemens wants to be CO2-neutral worldwide by 2030.

Three architects were initially in the running.

In December, the board of directors decided in favor of the concept by Munich architects Meck.

The terms of the contract are currently being worked on.

A lot of local wood will be used in the construction, explains Jaroschek, and the hotel wing will be expanded from three to four floors.

The Siemens employee expects the building permit to be issued at the end of 2023. The building should then be completed quickly using prefabricated modules.

One would like to generate energy with solar systems and, if possible, use geothermal energy.

Jaroschek estimates the construction costs to be in the mid two-digit million range.
