On January 5, a sexagenarian from the canton of Lucerne changed sex in the civil registry, in order to obtain a retirement pension more quickly.
The case was reported by the
Luzerner Zeitung
and several other Swiss media.
Since January 1, 2022, it is possible in Switzerland to change gender with the administration through a simple procedure.
A ten-minute interview is sufficient, during which the person's "
capacity of discernment
" is checked.
After the payment of a sum of 75 francs for registration, the change is recorded in the eyes of the State.

A disconcerting ease that already hinted at possibilities of abuse, men being able to become “
women
” to avoid compulsory military service.
But also to receive the so-called AVS (old-age and survivors' insurance) pension earlier, a basic retirement payment, created in 1925 and allocated to women at 64, and to men at 65.
It is this objective that was mentioned by the Lucernais, also known in the canton for his "
provocations
", according to 20Minutes.
The fear of civil status: being accused of "
transphobia
"
The administration has not yet returned to the case.
20Minutes Switzerland cites instructions given to civil registrars not to "
actively seek
" abuse, even in the absence of any medical certification.
Finally, the Swiss media underline the fear of administrative officials of being accused of "transphobia", which would push them to show little regard and therefore to accept all requests for sex change in the civil status.
