A broad alliance of politicians, the housing industry and associations should help in Berlin to boost the urgently needed housing construction and to ensure affordable rents for the future.
At the first meeting of the potential alliance partners on Friday in the Red City Hall, however, it became clear how laborious the project initiated by the Red-Green-Red Senate will be.
According to the Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD), those involved were able to agree on the basics of the work assignment and the structures of the alliance work.
However, an official declaration of all common goals should only be decided at the next meeting on February 21st.
On Friday, various participants presented important points that would have to be incorporated into the prepared draft, Giffey said in justification.

By the end of June, according to the Senate's goal, all those involved in the alliance should reach a binding agreement on how new apartments can be built more quickly while at the same time protecting tenants from excessive rent increases.
Until then, the alliance wants to meet once a month in a large group.
In addition, three working groups were formed.
