Telekom explains the reason for the almost week-long telephone disruption.

– For almost a week, the residents of Baustarring had no telephones or internet (we reported). The cause of the disruption was a damaged cable in one of the company's own street distributors. "These are the gray boxes on the side of the road," explains Göricke.

First of all, the error had to be localized by Telekom network technicians. These measurements would have to be done very conscientiously. The colleagues would also have to check whether there were other errors, especially on the line to the street distributor. “Unfortunately, this work takes a certain amount of time. However, the error was quickly remedied by switching to another fiber optic cable,” explains Göricke.

The disruption to the connection of the 74-year-old construction star wrestler with an analog connection was due to a damaged cable caused by water penetrating.

"Here, too, the error first had to be measured, which was a laborious process, because we can't simply open up the street to find the exact area of ​​damage." Water damage is generally more difficult to find and can only be found with considerable effort.

The cable is often defective in several places.

In order to replace and install such damaged cables in the ground, extensive civil engineering work is usually required in the public street space, explains the Telekom employee, “This is also the case in this case.

We need permits for this, and of course safety is the top priority here: both that of road users and colleagues on site who work on the construction site.”

In addition, this work is dependent on a number of other factors: For example, the onset of rain or snowfall or frost could hinder the work or even make it impossible, especially now in the winter months.

"Despite careful planning and the enormous commitment of our technical teams, all these external factors can unfortunately always lead to delays in the elimination of faults," he asks for understanding.

On Wednesday, the damage to the elderly lady was also repaired, and her phone is now working properly again.
