The Finnish Foreign Ministry this evening (Friday) accused NSO of spying on the diplomatic staff of the Scandinavian country - although the ministry did not specify on behalf of whom the spying was allegedly carried out.
According to a statement from the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, software they described as "extremely advanced" was found in the devices of diplomats who served outside Finland, and allowed full access to the contents of their devices - whether Apple or Android devices.
The Finns noted that the espionage operation after their diplomatic staff had been stopped, and that Finnish state employees were not supposed to transmit sensitive information using unclassified electronic devices of the type hacked.
Late last year the U.S. State Department announced that the company's software was found in the devices of department employees stationed in Uganda.
"If our investigation shows that these actions did take place with our tools, the engagement with such a client will end permanently and we will take legal action," an NSO spokesman said at the time, adding that NSO would also "cooperate with any relevant government authority and present the full information we have."
