For the visit to Bad Tölz, the Bavarian Science Minister Bernd Sibler (3rd from left) brought a funding commitment of 6.9 million euros as start-up funding for the technology transfer center "Tizio" - much to the delight of (from left) the district administrator Josef Niedermaier, member of the state parliament Martin Bachhuber, university vice president Prof. Thomas Stumpp, ex-Burgmann boss Elmar Baur and mayor Ingo Mehner.

Bad Tölz will appear on the Bavarian science map in the future.

The Munich University of Applied Sciences will open a branch office here.

There is generous start-up aid from the Free State.

Bad Tölz

– The Free State is paying 6.9 million euros as start-up financing for the planned “Tizio” technology transfer center in Bad Tölz.

Science Minister Bernd Sibler (CSU) announced this news on Thursday afternoon in a press conference in the Tölz district office.

The representatives from politics, science and business present expressed their satisfaction that the Oberland will no longer be a "blank spot" on the scientific map.

First location of the Munich University of Applied Sciences far outside the city

District Administrator Josef Niedermaier relativized the frequently cited "blank spot" right at the beginning - with reference to the presence of the Catholic Foundation University in Benediktbeuern.

In the field of business and technology, however, such a contact point for networking companies and research is something new in the region.

"Tizio" is "the first location of the Munich University of Applied Sciences that is well outside the gates of Munich," emphasized its Vice President Prof. Thomas Stumpp.

"Therefore, this is a historic moment for us." Stumpp announced that around 150 professors would be released from their teaching duties and employed in Bad Tölz in the areas of research and innovation.

Sibler hastened to add that this shift "won't come at the expense of teaching," as the positions would be compensated.

Topics in the “Tizio” in Tölz: robotics and 3D printing

The main topics will be – under the heading of digitization and sustainability – “innovative production and materials” as well as “management and tourism”.

For example, it will be about robotics or 3D printing, explained Stumpp.

The presence of the university gives local companies "direct access to scientific know-how".

Elmar Baur, the former boss of the Wolfratshausen-based company Eagle Burgmann, made it clear how much companies can benefit from this.

"Small and medium-sized companies often have reservations about universities," he said.

"They think: I can't approach a university with my topic." The potential of the universities can be optimally harnessed for companies - starting with "machines that are at the university and some of which are not used".

In addition, the location disadvantage of high wages and salaries can best be compensated for by training and further education of the employees.

The university, in turn, according to Baur, benefits insofar as it "remains connected to practice".

The students are offered topics "that are not just theory and then end up in the wastepaper basket".

Technology campus in Bad Tölz as an ideal location

the participants did not dare to give a time statement.

But according to Stumpp, the university wants to move into a liaison office in Bad Tölz by the end of this year.

Sibler assigned the 6.9 million euros in start-up financing for Tizio to “Markus Söder's high-tech offensive” and described it as an “important structural policy approach”.

The member of parliament Martin Bachhuber (CSU) described the location of the university branch office as a "significant enrichment for the entire Oberland".
