The French historian Vincent Le Maire confirmed that the Israeli occupation entity was the one who planned to destroy the Mughrabi neighborhood after occupying all of Jerusalem in 1967 and tried to camouflage it.
According to Agence France-Presse, this came in a book by this historian, issued today, entitled (At the Feet of the Wall: The Life and Death of the Mughrabi Quarter in Jerusalem 1187-1967), in which he relied on local, Ottoman and French documents that he delved into during six years, bringing back the forgotten story of the neighborhood over eight centuries. .
Le Maire, who runs the French Research Center in Jerusalem, pointed out that this neighborhood was not destroyed, as they claim, based on the initiative of 15 Israeli contractors in the wake of the 1967 aggression, but rather based on a decision by the occupation authorities.
Le Maire affirmed that his book provides conclusive and written evidence of the deliberate and prior planning and coordination of this operation, and that there are compelling documents on that.
Le Maire pointed out that he had seen an internal memorandum of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued on the same day of the operation, which included the elements that were supposed to be used to justify the destruction of the neighborhood, and the memo was aimed at making people believe that it was dilapidated housing and dangerous buildings.
