Despite the high number of new infections, Italy wants to relax its entry rules soon.
Then it will be easier for unvaccinated people to go on vacation again.
While some are headed for the ski areas in South Tyrol, others are already planning a summer vacation on the beach: Italy offers European vacationers a multitude of options.
As far as entry rules are concerned, there have been many hurdles in recent weeks and months due to the corona pandemic.
Now, however, the Italian government wants to relax the entry rules on February 1,
despite the continued high number of new infections
.
Travelers from EU countries then only need one of the three proofs:
a negative corona test, a vaccination certificate or proof
of recovery .
According to the industry
portal FVW
, a corresponding decree was signed by Health Minister Roberto Speranza.
This would remove all additional restrictions.
Corona: Italy lifts restrictions on entry
So far, all travelers, including those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered, were required to take additional tests - this regulation is still in force up to and including January 31, 2022.
A PCR test not older than 48 hours and a rapid antigen test not older than 24 hours are accepted.
There is also a five-day quarantine obligation for unvaccinated and not fully vaccinated people, which is completed with a further corona test.
From February 1st, the
3G certificate will be sufficient for entry
.
The Italian government is thus following the recommendation of the European Union, which recently required all EU member states to withdraw their stricter entry rules.
Many countries wanted to slow down the spread of the contagious omicron variant - however, according to the EU, this is now predominant in Europe.
Therefore , the EU's digital Covid certificate
should again be sufficient for travel
.

Holidays in Italy: How long are the vaccination certificates valid?
However, it is unclear how these easing will affect recently announced measures: just a few days ago, the Italian government announced that the vaccination certificates should only be valid for six months instead of nine.
Here, too, the EU recommended a
nine-month validity period
.
The new measure should also come into force on February 1.
So it remains to be seen whether this will actually be implemented.
The 7-day incidence in Italy is currently 1,857.5 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants (as of January 28, 2022) and is therefore a lot higher than in Germany.
But in this country, too, the 1,000 mark has now been broken.
