Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that Russia does not want war, but the United States and the West are attacking its interests and will not allow it.
Lavrov said during an interview with Russian radio stations today: "If the matter depends on Russia, there will be no war. We do not want war, but we also will not allow our interests to be attacked and ignored."
Lavrov explained that the negotiations on security guarantees with the United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization "NATO" have not yet ended, pointing out that the American side studied Russia's proposals on security guarantees for a whole month, although they are simple and specific, and its response to them includes positive matters related to secondary and not essential issues, noting that the meeting A new issue related to the settlement of the crisis will be held between the Russian and American Foreign Ministry within two weeks.
Lavrov considered that NATO's response to the Russian security guarantees proposals is very ideological, adding that "the West extracts only what it needs from the provisions related to the indivisibility of the security of the OSCE."
Lavrov stressed that Moscow wants the West to deal impartially and implement its commitments and needs a clear answer from the West regarding security guarantees and not just excuses, stressing that his country will take retaliatory measures if there is no agreement with the West on the principles of ensuring security in Europe.
Concerning the threats of the United States and the West to impose sanctions on Russia, Lavrov pointed out that the implementation of these threats will lead to the severing of relations, and this is not in anyone's interest.
Regarding Washington's intention to hold a session in the Security Council on Ukraine, Lavrov indicated that Russia has a lot to talk about, as it is stationed within its territory, while Washington deploys its military in several places in the world illegally and without official invitations from those countries.
Lavrov explained that the United States is using Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and his regime to increase tension around Russia, pointing out at the same time that "no one can pressure Kiev to comply with the Minsk agreements except Washington."
Lavrov added: "During the meeting between President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Joe Biden last June, Biden said... he would like to help implement the Minsk agreements... If they can force Kiev, we will be satisfied with this result, but so far it's hard to believe." that".
"If Ukrainian President Zelensky wants to discuss normalization of relations with Russia, we are ready and invite him to come to Moscow or Sochi," Lavrov said.
