Lebanon is preparing to receive the American envoy in the middle of next week in talks on drawing a maritime border with Israel.
The emissary Amos Hochstein will arrive with the aim of bringing about the resumption of indirect talks in Nakura.
This was reported this morning (Friday) in Lebanese media.
The Lebanese newspaper Al-Jamhuriya has learned that the emissary Hochstein, who will arrive in Lebanon from Israel, will renew his round of contacts while marketing a new outline for the impasse, which may give priority to stopping the discussion on surface water and concentrating on the distribution of resources below the water.
According to the report, the idea behind the move is that it will be easier to allocate natural resources than to draw marine boundaries.
It was also stated that in this context, if there are overlapping areas - then each of the parties will avoid expanding the drilling works, in a way that will preserve the rights of each country.
Hochstein was appointed to the post last year by President Biden and there is a skipping campaign between Lebanon and Israel in November 2021. The indirect talks between the parties were stopped last year amid gaps regarding the line where the border will cross.
Lebanon considers the border line further south of Israel and thus creates an area that is in dispute between the countries.
Boundary drawing is important for both countries to start developing gas fields in those areas.
