The Russian Foreign Ministry announced the expansion of the list of European Union officials who are banned from entering the territory of Russia and subject to its sanctions.
The ministry said in a statement today: "Moscow, guided by the principle of reciprocity and equality, decided to expand the list of representatives of EU member states and some European bodies banned from entering the territory of Russia."
The Foreign Ministry clarified that the Russian actions primarily involve the heads of European private military companies operating in different regions of the world, who for some reason do not sensitize European officials in Brussels with their activity.
"The list of reciprocity has been renewed to include officials of the legislative and executive bodies and authorities in a number of EU member states who bear personal responsibility for promoting anti-Russian policies and imposing measures that violate the legitimate rights of Russians," the Foreign Ministry added.
The Russian Foreign Ministry indicated that it informed the European side of this step through a memorandum sent to the European Union Representation in Russia.
