A Russian soldier was killed after an emergency landing of a Mil Mi-8 military helicopter near the city of Ulyanovsk in central Russia.
"The helicopter was forced to make a hard landing near the city of Ulyanovsk, which led to the injury of all crew members of varying severity, while a soldier succumbed to his injuries," the TASS news agency quoted the Russian Defense Ministry as saying in a statement today.
The ministry added that "the rest of the crew members were evacuated by a search and rescue helicopter to the nearest airport to be transported to a medical facility."
Information indicates that the accident occurred as a result of a technical malfunction, but investigations are still ongoing to determine its causes.
