A new study confirmed that taking vitamin D and omega-3 supplements may contribute to reducing the risk of developing autoimmune disorders in humans, a serious problem that many diseases fall under.

According to a study reported by Russian Sputnik, researchers found in their study, which included separate samples, the first was given vitamin D, the second was given an omega-3 supplement, and the third and the fourth was given a placebo supplement, that people who took the supplements had decreased symptoms of autoimmune diseases or autoimmune strikes.

The term autoimmune diseases includes a list of 80 diseases in addition to diseases related to this disease, such as systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, childhood diabetes, and multiple sclerosis, which occur due to the body's immune system attacking its tissues, in addition to many diseases such as the inability to focus. Hair loss, fatigue, weakness, muscle pain, swelling, redness of the skin, fever and others.

The researchers stressed the need for more studies to find out why these preventive supplements affect autoimmune diseases, but the results confirmed their ability to reduce risks significantly.

The study was carried out by researchers from Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, a five-year experiment for nearly 26,000 people over the age of 50, after they were randomly divided into four different groups. The first was given vitamin D, the second vitamin D, and the third, omega-3, and the fourth, omega-3, a placebo.

During 5 years of following up people, studying natural records, and monitoring cases of immune diseases, the results showed positive indicators.

According to an article published in the "Daily Mail", people who took vitamin D were observed to have a 22% decrease, while people who took omega-3 supplements had a 15% decrease, which are good indicators.

The researchers said that these findings do not apply to patients with autoimmune diseases early in life, because they need a long period of follow-up to determine the effectiveness of supplementation.
