The US ambassador to Russia, John Sullivan, said that the US response to the Russian proposals on security guarantees takes into account a number of Moscow's concerns and contains proposals for mutual steps on military exercises and missiles. It takes into account a number of Russian concerns, pointing out that the US proposals are related to the issue of military exercises and arms control, including missiles, in Europe.
Sullivan explained that his country is waiting for a response from the Russian government to that and after that there may be discussions, adding: We prefer diplomacy and are ready to move forward with regard to the possibility of joint action, and we believe that the American response to the Russian proposals opens the way for diplomacy and de-escalation.
Yesterday, the United States delivered, through Sullivan, its written response to the draft bilateral treaty on security guarantees submitted by the Russian side, while Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced yesterday that the United States, in its response, did not respond to the most important Russian request, which is to stop the expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization "NATO" towards the East.
