Fans of Porsche and more particularly 911 competition cars from the 1970s will not be able to remain unmoved by consulting the catalog of the Amelia Island sale organized by Gooding & Company on March 4.
The American auction house, which has made the sale of exceptional and collectible automobiles its specialty, is dispersing the collection of the American Loyd Hawkins.
Passionate about the German brand from Zuffenhausen, this gentleman driver, founder of the Rennsport Racing workshops, gathered over time the cream of the 911 racing cars of the 1970s. His collection consists of two 935s, the model that defended the colors of Porsche in endurance racing during the 1970s-1980s.
Wearing the Interscope colours,
the first of the two is the penultimate example (chassis #930 990 0031) of the thirty-seven customer 935s produced by the factory.
It is estimated between $1.7 million and $2 million.

This American took part in the 1981 24 Hours of Le Mans in a K3 version of the 935 entered by the Preston Henn Racing team.
Since leaving the factory, the 935 has had four owners.

Mr. Hawkins' collection also includes two 911 Carrera 3.0 RSR from 1974. The first (chassis number #9110) bears the colors of the German Kremer team.
The second (chassis #0085) raced in the IROC series in the United States.
It is estimated between 1.1 and 1.3 million dollars.
A 934/5 (chassis #0951) entered under the Brumos Racing banner completes this fine sample of racing Porsche 911s.
Mr. Hawkins is parting with his road-going 911s: 1973 2.4 T, 1973 2.7 Carrera RS lightweight, 1977 911 Turbo 3-litre and 2001 996 GT2.
The Gooding & Co collection
The Gooding & Company vacation at Amelia Island will also see the dispersal of the late Rudy Mancinas' collection.
Nicknamed “Mr.
993”, this Texan had a passion for the Porsche 993 and the BMWs haloed by the Motorsport label.
His collection comprised 18 vehicles, including 10 Porsches, mainly models belonging to the 993 generation. As for his BMW collection, it was essentially made up of M3s, of which he owned one model from each generation.
The entire collection of Mr. Mancinas is sold without reserve price
