A Hispanic window cleaner died Wednesday morning after falling 14 feet while working on the eighth floor of a newly constructed building in San Diego, California, The San Diego Tribune reported. 

Edi Cañedo worked for Sky High Window Cleaning, according to the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) office.

He was going to be the father of a girl in just three months and had plans to marry his fiancée, his sister-in-law Marlene Ramírez told the NBC affiliate in San Diego.

He also had two children from a previous marriage.

"He loved his job, we never thought this would take him away from our side," Ramirez said.

The Saint Teresa of Calcutta Villa building is located in downtown San Diego and has 14 stories.

It was built to house the homeless and low-income, and was to open on February 10.

The project's promoters, Father Joe's Villages and Chelsea Investment Corporation, said in a statement: "We are deeply saddened to learn of the accidental death of a subcontractor employee during the final phase of construction ... We extend our heartfelt prayers and Our deepest condolences to the victim's family, friends and colleagues."

For years, employers have tried to train robots to clean skyscraper windows, but they have yet to supplant human workers who risk their lives so we can look out a clean window.

“In reality, only one mistake is enough [to die].

You have to stay focused because you only fall once,” explained Tony Natoli, owner of Tony's Window Cleaning Service in Glendale, New York, in an interview with The New York Times.

Edi had been in a relationship with his fiancée for eight years.
