The evolution of the forest is closely linked to the history of man, to his economic development, to his political and societal changes.
The French forest of this beginning of the century has nothing to do with that of the 20th century, even less with that of two hundred years ago.
Geographically, its area has more than doubled in two centuries and it continues to grow.
