The municipal council of Wörthsee has decided on the controversial property at Kuckucksheim as the location for the planned biomass heating plant.

Steinebach – The decision has been made.

On Wednesday evening, the members of the municipal council in Wörthsee voted unanimously for the location south of Zum Kuckucksheim road in the area of the salt silo for the construction of a biomass heating plant - despite isolated criticism from the population (we reported).

The municipality would like to heat the planned supermarket at Kuckucksheim, the "Wohnen am Quartiersplatz" project west of Etterschlager Strasse, the Wogeno residential area, the old building of the Wohnen association and the children's home in future CO2-neutrally using a combined heat and power plant. "We looked at five possible locations with the future operator MW Biomasse AG from Irschenberg," said Christian Ufer, landscape architect from the Terrabiota office in Starnberg, who was commissioned by the municipality to carry out the investigation. "We paid attention to various criteria such as construction costs, connection, environment and possible ecological interventions."

Ufer considers the location south of Zum Kuckucksheim street between the access road to Buchteil and the access road to the cemetery to be rather unsuitable.

"Although the land is municipally owned, it is triangular and the biomass heating plant is supposed to be rectangular," he said.

In addition, the tree population on the area is quite old, which is linked to higher species protection requirements.

Biomass heating plant should not be built next to the crèche

The locations to the north of Zum Kuckucksheim street – at 340 square meters the area is clearly too small for the roughly 540 square meter heating plant – and to the south of the crèche on Schluifelder Straße are also out of the running. "Although the construction costs for the plot of land by the crèche are low, the location for the delivery of the wood chips is difficult," said the landscape architect. Mayor Christel Muggenthal also rejected this location. "I don't think that's a good idea." A large cloud of steam would be visible over the roof of the biomass cogeneration plant when it was in use, which could scare off parents and children.

The location in the area of the Wogeno construction project was also quickly rejected.

“The heating plant no longer fits on the property above ground, if so, it would only be possible to build it underground.

However, the operator would not go along with this, as additional costs of around 800,000 euros would be incurred,” explained Ufer.

Therefore, only the location in the area of the salt silo remained for the planner, which was criticized by the initiative for biodiversity Wörthsee because of the felling of trees.

"It is clear to me that there will be forest interventions again," said Christel Muggenthal at the meeting.

However, it is a young tree population.

Councilor Dirk Bödicker: "But we have no choice but to swallow the toad."

The arguments for the location, such as the central location, the good delivery options and the size, also convinced the municipal councils.

"I can go with the location," said Dr.

Harald Lossau (FW).

“I debated the location for a relatively long time,” emphasized Dirk Bödicker from WörthseeAktiv (WA).

"However, we have no choice but to swallow the toad."

The municipal council unanimously decided to draw up a development plan and to change the land use plan.

"It is also important for me to mention that the wood chips come from the region and that we want to support farmers from the community," added Robert Wihan (FW).
