A statement by the airport boss about the third runway set the alarm bells ringing at MdL Johannes Becher.

But that's not the only thing that worries him.

Freising

– First, there is the 16-year long-running 3rd runway: Airport boss Jost Lammers emphasized in December and afterwards that the runway was still “a long-term option”, reported MdL Johannes Becher (Greens) in the context of a digital one press briefing. In addition, the third runway is also in the new draft for the partial update of the state development plan (LEP), is still defined there as a goal, the priority area for the runway is still included.

Becher's conclusion: The state government made up of CSU and FW is still sticking to the runway, although it is "completely nonsensical in all respects".

Even if he believes that "colleague Zierer" is trying, the parliamentary group of the Free Voters apparently does not have the strength or the priority to "bury the runway against the will of the CSU".

It is therefore important to do everything possible to ensure that the Greens are involved in the government from 2023.

Because then "there will be no moratorium, no longer delaying the population, but the repeal of the building permit".

By the way: You can submit objections and comments on the LEP update until April 1st.

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.

But that's not the only development that worries Becher: he's been involved in politics for 15 years, even though he's only 33 years old. When he looks at how the region has changed during this time, he doesn't feel comfortable. Because of the enormous land use, the region is “losing its face in slices”. It is therefore clear: "It cannot go on like this." The goal of internal before external development must be implemented more consistently.

Unfortunately, the Free State was the only federal state to refuse the introduction of property tax C, which would have meant higher taxes on undeveloped areas for which building rights exist - which would have been at least "a small lever", said Becher.

He can understand the municipalities, after all they need income - above all from income and trade tax.

The problem: the municipalities have good income, but the tasks and expenses that the Free State burdens them with are increasing.

For example, according to the demands of Becher and the Greens, more support from the Free State is needed for municipal measures in the area of climate protection and adaptation to the consequences of climate change.

Becher: Children lose light-heartedness and carelessness

What the municipalities will soon have to deal with is IT security - not that a town hall or a district office is paralyzed by hackers, as happened in Bitterfeld. Becher announced an event with experts.

What is also driving Becher is concern for the children and young people who have been living in Corona mode for two years. The important light-heartedness and carelessness is often not there, the psychological stress on the offspring has increased during the pandemic. And then there's early childhood education, which, according to Becher, is "absolutely burning". In order to be able to offer good childcare places, you have to invest in staff, you have to create the framework conditions so that the staff are not under massive strain and change jobs at some point. Becher called for a different funding system, different framework conditions and an "adjustment" of the BayKiBiG to improve personnel recruitment. "You have to change course now," he appealed - especially in view of the fact that all-day care at primary schools will also be added from 2026.
