Nicolas May is dead. The 14-year-old boy died unexpectedly at the beginning of January from an undiscovered heart defect.

Now he was buried.

Olching

- "He was a very loving boy who wanted to be close to his parents." Manfred May is composed when he says this sentence.

And yet you can tell that it takes strength for him to talk about his terrible loss.

His son Nicolas died unexpectedly at the age of 14 at the beginning of January - apparently because of an undiscovered heart defect, as the autopsy showed.

A day later, the dress rehearsal of the Olchinger Tanzfreunde (OTF) for the enthronement of the local carnival princes would have taken place for the student.

A hobby he loved so much.

Dancing and music, that was his life anyway, says the father about Nico.

Nicolas May (14) died: Enthusiastic member of the Tanzfreunde

Not only that he was an enthusiastic member of the OTF for four years.

Nicolas discovered hip-hop for himself and also took classical dance lessons at a dance school in Olching.

In addition, there were guitar lessons in a Fürstenfeldbruck music studio.

"He's completely immersed in the dancing and the music," says Manfred May, who has been a DJ himself for 25 years.

But the fact that his son dedicated a specially composed song to him fills the father with pride.

"Thank you Baba for always being there for me.

Thank you Baba for doing everything for me,” the song reads.

"It was perfect, for him and for us," says Manfred May, also known for his Germeringer business "Trachtenwahnsinn".

So help now the memory of the last days and hours.

Nicolas had spent New Year's Eve with his father in Fürstenfeldbruck, and also the first two days of the new year.

Then May brought the 14-year-old back to mother Melanie, the parents live separately.

The mother runs a funeral home in Fürstenfeldbruck.

Nicolas (14) died of an undiscovered heart defect: Bub had a social streak

When saying goodbye to father and son, it wasn't just the usual “goodbye”.

"Nico hugged me twice this time," says the father.

Just a few hours later, the mother called, bringing the terrible news of the boy's death.

A few days earlier, Nicolas had helped a girl who had collapsed at the Olching train station.

"He actually had a social streak and was very helpful," says Manfred May. If a classmate was hit on, he would help them as a matter of course.

Farewell to classmates in Maisach: in the spirit of Nico

The student's willingness to help did not go unnoticed at the Orlando di Lasso secondary school in Maisach either. "We are very grateful that you have enriched our community with your cheerful nature and your warm nature," wrote Rector Doris Lux in the obituary. There was a mourning room for the classmates to say goodbye. At the express wish of the parents, the schoolmates were also given the opportunity to do so at the urn burial in the Olchinger Parkfriedhof.

The parents found the support of the crisis intervention team to be very helpful.

“Although I only noticed it subconsciously.

But I was grateful that someone was there for me, for us as parents," says Manfred May. That's why the decision was quickly made to let the OTF enthronement take place despite the tragedy of his son's much too early death - at the Martin School , where Nicolas spent his elementary school days.

"It was 100 percent the right decision," said Manfred May. The OTF and its chairman Adalbert Heim spent almost an hour and a half with a lot of respect.

The father was particularly impressed by how the individual groups incorporated his son's picture into the program.

"It would have been in Nico's interest." The fact that he was present at the enthronement was a sign of gratitude to the OTF.

Where Nico could immerse himself in music and dancing.
