Is this the house on which the folk children's song is based?

An old and popular British children's song claims that there was an old woman with many children who lived in a shoe.

It's a bit reminiscent of the woman who lived in a watermelon (from a poem by Nurit Zarchi, best remembered by Hava Alberstein), only much more English and gloomy.

And he goes like this:

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe.

She had so many children, she did not know what to do.

She gave them some broth without any bread;

Then whipped them all soundly and put them to bed.

And in free translation into Hebrew:

there was an old woman living in a shoe

she had so many children she did not know what to do at all.

So she served them soup, without a piece of bread next door

gave them a flick in the butt and they went to bed right away.

The song dates to the end of the 18th century and even appeared in the storybook 'Mother Goose' but no one knows if there really was such a woman (come on, there was no such woman).

But foresters claim that they recently found an abandoned house in the shape of a shoe, hidden in a thick forest, and they even claim that there are signs that a woman lived there sometime in the 1950s.

In a post posted to the Abandoned UK Facebook group that deals with the discovery of abandoned buildings, it was written that the small building was found to be suffering from years of neglect, covered in moss and moss.

The plants that surround it have already sent tubers that have climbed onto its outer walls, in a way that seems to seek to swallow it into them.

And yet, it is still easy to notice the shoe-like shape in which the stone structure is built, whose shape has been clearly preserved.

The small wooden roof, on the other hand, withstood the ravages of time and nature less well, and seemed matte to fall.

Investigators peeked through one of the windows of the house, and saw that part of the building had collapsed inside, so it was not possible to enter it safely and see what was inside, but they claim to have noticed signs that someone had lived in it before.

"It took us a long time to find it, but we did it - after a long walk in the forest, which felt like an eternity, we finally noticed the shape of the boot at the bottom of a steep cliff. In the end we also managed to descend it at the end.

The post further states that an internet search led to information that it was a favorite playground for children in the 1970s and 1980s (although no mention was made of how they heard about it or were able to reach it, given the challenging and dangerous route the researchers described).

Part of the building has collapsed and can not be entered - this is what it looks like when you look inside:

The respondents of course did not miss the similarity between the details of the structure and the popular children's song.

And wonder what preceded what - the house to sing, or the song to the house.

Although it is likely that the song, which is said to be more than 200 years old, preceded the house.

Some of them claimed that it was the remains of some playground built inspired by the song at a resort that had been located in the forest in the past, and that no one had ever really lived in it.

And that sounds like a much more plausible explanation.

The explorers and amateur researchers who belong to Abandoned UK's urban explorers are careful not to share the exact information about the location of the buildings they reveal and discover, in order to keep away vandals who could corrupt them.

So it seems that the shoe house - whether an old woman lived in it in the past or not - will remain abandoned in the future as well.
