In the US, more people are quitting than ever before.

The Great Resignation is what US economists call the trend.

"I believe that the trend will spill over to us if we are not already in the middle of it," says Bernd Slaghuis, who accompanies executives as a coach.

"In the last two years of the crisis, I have experienced a rush for career, reorientation and job change coaching, the greatest demand in the 12 years of my professional self-employment," says Slaghuis in the new episode of the Team A Podcast.

A new Forsa study commissioned by the Xing network shows: 37 percent of German employees are currently thinking about changing jobs or are already actively on the job market.

In Austria it is even 46 percent.

Women are more likely to quit than men.

And: One in four is currently resigning without having a new job.

The phenomenon hardly surprises scientists.

People are more open to change when they are no longer surrounded by routines or places, found Herminia Ibarra, professor of organizational behavior at London Business School.

This is called habit discontinuity.

Don't rush the termination

The pandemic raises the big questions of life: What do I want in my life, what values are important to me?

Employees who, for example, were able to spend more time with their families or saved commuting time were more likely to develop the impulse to change their lives permanently.

In addition, many companies underwent major reorganization during the pandemic.

The experiences that Germans have had with home office and hybrid work were very different.

"I often hear that the way my employer treated us as employees during the Corona crisis no longer suits me

,"

says Slaghuis.

But what do you do when your job no longer fits your life?

It is important not to rush the termination.

"I see that many people are currently fleeing," says Slaghuis.

They just wanted to get away - and hectically accepted the first offer that came along.

In the new job, they quickly experienced the familiar problems.

Before giving notice, Slaghuis recommends making yourself aware of the following: What working environment, what role and what type of management do I want?

In the podcast, Slaghuis explains what questions you should ask potential new bosses in the job interview and how you can recognize a corporate culture in the video call.
