(CNN Spanish) --
The government of Ecuador reported this Friday on the activation of a committee for crisis management after the rupture of an oil pipeline of the company Oleoducto de Crudos Pesados, OCP, in the Piedra Fina sector, province of Napo, caused by the detachment of rocks left by the passage of the rains, according to the statement.
Through the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition, "the government has ordered urgent and immediate contingency, cleaning and remediation activities", as well as environmental monitoring of the area, according to the official bulletin.
The amount of oil spilled was not officially specified, but it was detailed that the activation of the committee includes joint efforts between the OCP company and the government to manage the crisis.
The Ecological Action organization shared images denouncing contamination of the Coca River and demanded that the government take action.
Meanwhile, the official bulletin reported on the activation of a work table to control the health and distribution of water in Napo, parallel to the measurement of the environmental and community impact of what happened.
