A Hamas Interior Ministry spokesman confirmed that the detainee, 35-year-old 'Abd al-Karim Shaaban Abu Awda, had escaped arrest this morning (Saturday), and Hamas security forces are taking steps to re-arrest him.

In addition, Hamas ordered fishermen in the Gaza Strip to beware of cooperating with the escaped detainee, and fishing was suspended for several hours for fear of escaping by sea.

Several reports in Gaza claimed that the detainee, 'Abd al-Karim Shaaban from Khan Yunis, was arrested after being accused of collaborating with Israeli intelligence and passing information regarding the terrorist tunnels.
