The city library in Geretsried has a new manager.

Hannah Vogel has known the facility for a long time - she attended the high school across the street.

Now she is back at home.

Geretsried – Hannah Vogel took her first steps in the Wolfratshausen public library, and now she runs the Geretsried public library.

At the beginning of the year, the 27-year-old took over from Björn Rodenwaldt.

The family man will be responsible for two libraries at the German School in Shanghai, China (we reported).

Vogel describes her start as boss as “very turbulent”.

She had a pretty good idea of what to expect.

"But that doesn't change the fact that I received an incredible amount of input in the first few days," says the 27-year-old.

The library team still makes it "very easy for me to settle in and find my way around".

Management position "an absolute stroke of luck for me"

For Vogel, the application was the logical next step.

"I wanted to develop professionally," she says.

Most recently, the librarian worked as deputy manager in the Pullach community library.

"The fact that I have now been given the opportunity to manage the Geretsried public library is an absolute stroke of luck for me." She is looking forward to continuing Björn Rodenwaldt's great work and to developing and implementing new ideas together with her team.

Vogel already knows the Geretsrieder library from school days.

She attended high school in Geretsried.

For family reasons, however, she spent more time in the Wolfratshausen public library.

Her mother, Silke Vogel, is the manager in the neighboring town.

"She started there as a volunteer when I was little and worked her way up," says Hannah Vogel.

She herself used to do voluntary work in Wolfratshausen.

This is how she came up with the idea of doing her Bachelor of Arts in library and information management at the Stuttgart Media University.

"So far I haven't regretted it.

It's a nice job.”

Vogel found her six-month internship at the Danish central library in Apenrade particularly interesting.

“The open library concept is common there.” In other words, members can also use the library rooms outside of opening hours.

Architecturally, too, one notices that libraries in Denmark have a high social status.

City library Geretsried was on everyone's lips

After her studies, Vogel worked in the central library in Cologne and the state department for libraries at the Michaelsbund in Munich. Meanwhile, she followed all developments at home with great interest. "Of course, in recent years, the Geretsried Public Library has not only been on everyone's lips in library circles, but also repeatedly in the media," says the 27-year-old. The library caused quite a stir with the new gaming room and modernization.

Since mother and daughter are now at the head of the two city libraries in the middle center, inter-communal cooperation is obvious.

"We can inspire each other, and I benefit from one or the other tip," says Hannah Vogel.

Further cooperations, as they already existed, are not improbable.

But the 27-year-old also emphasizes: "They are two very different libraries in terms of structure and structure."
