I owe the inspiration for this headline to Canadian (retired) Supreme Court Justice Rosalie Abla, who in her poignant and moving language responded to my announcement about the sudden death of the Honorable (retired) President Miriam Naor.

Miriam Naor, President and Supreme Court Justice, Justice of the Peace and District Court, Diligent Public Prosecutor, daughter, sister, wife, devoted mother and grandmother, my beloved teacher and friend, accompanied my life.

Her mother-in-law, the late Esther Raziel-Naor, an educator, leader and warrior, was my mother's teacher and friend for many years, during the days of freedom, and later the Likud. 'Aryeh Naor, flourished friendship and deep appreciation. My father also later became a friend and bad. Thus, I gained a brave friendship with her, built on the basis of a family story intertwined in the evening and evening in the life of the Naor family for generations, and in the story of the state and people.

In my sophomore year studying law at the Hebrew University, Judge Naor accepted me to intern in her office in the Jerusalem District Court, with the promise that my studies would not be harmed. In turbulent days of trials that were in the public eye and the media, her peace and quiet were exemplary and exemplary, as were her professionalism, thoroughness, integrity and uncompromising modesty. Among mountains of legal material, I learned from her ability to distinguish between the essentials and to address and refine sharply the questions essential to the clarification of the truth; From her uncompromising commitment to justice; From its independence and mental clarity and conduct. I experienced the appreciation and respect she had for the three authorities in a democracy, for the natural tension and concern for the delicate balance between them. I watched in amazement at her character traits, which enabled her to produce and maintain trust and mutual respect, even with those who disagreed with her.

In

Until her last hours she sat into the night with the diligence that characterized her, as the head of the committee that investigated the disaster in Meron. When asked to report for the mission, and expressing regret that her time would not be hers again, she answered me with the sincerity that characterized her: "I was called up to the reserve. It is my duty to report." With the establishment of the committee, I shared my concern with the families of eight of the 45 victims, who came to Israel to celebrate Meron because of their deep connection to their Jewish identity and state. I asked to find a way to share them in the process and its results as well. With endless listening and humanity, the families of those killed in the disaster received the interim report translated into English, in order to make it accessible to them as well.

The judge, as I insisted on continuing to call her, in the God of Knowledge, accompanied me throughout my life and path - legally, professionally and personally.

She was also a partner in the deliberations that accompanied four election campaigns, and in the decision to serve the public from the Knesset of Israel.

On the ups and downs, she was there, an attentive ear that took time to ponder, think and advise.

I was very excited when she honored me with her presence in the inaugural speech from the Knesset podium, after "exchanging her day with the grandchildren" to be there, proudly and proudly.

She was very supportive of my candidacy for the presidency of the Jewish Agency, based on our acquaintance following in-depth discussions.

She was not happy with me when she expressed her impression of my regular year, and asked me to deploy her to a forum she led as part of her activities in the Zionist Organization, which was motivated by concern for her people and her country.

We talked a lot about our shared commitment to the people and the land, and to the responsibility of our generation to pour content into the mission and values of the State of Israel, Jewish and democratic, in the spirit of the Declaration of Independence and the vision of the prophets of Israel.

Along with being a "judicial man," I will not forget the Jewish mother she was.

On the days and nights we shared a table in the district court;

In insights and words of encouragement for significant events or dates;

Little stories of great humanity, which testified to the greatness of her modesty.

Later, when she invited my family to visit her office on Hanukkah, it was obvious for her to stop at the bakery, to pick out donuts for my children herself, hoping they would love her choices.

I will always cherish in my heart her respectful and equal treatment of every person, at all times, from the guards who accompanied her to Shabbat meals, to worldly devils.

The heart aches for the judge's untimely passing;

A Jewish mother and a "judicial punisher."

I will miss her very much.

Her tremendous heritage, the compass she was and her clear voice will continue to resonate and guide, even down the road.
