The Russian ambassador to Ireland, Yuri Filatov, announced today that his country has decided to move the naval maneuvers scheduled in the Atlantic Ocean next month outside Ireland's exclusive economic zone, in order not to impede the work of Irish fishermen.
"In response to the request of the Irish government and the appeals of the Association of Southern and Western Fish Producers in Ireland, the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Sergey Shoigu, decided to transfer the naval maneuvers scheduled from 3 to 8 February outside the exclusive economic zone of Ireland with the aim of not impeding the work of Irish fishermen in the areas of traditional fishing.
The Russian ambassador reiterated that the naval maneuvers are in full compliance with international law and do not pose any threat to Ireland.
