At the end of May there is another boys' choir festival in Bad Tölz.

Choirs from Bavaria come as guests.

This time the program extends to the whole city and includes local ensembles.

In October there will be a special concert with a choir from London.

Bad Tölz - This is a ray of hope for all culture-hungry and lovers of classical choral music: At the end of May, more precisely from May 25th to 29th, a boys' choir festival will take place in Bad Tölz again.

Under Corona conditions, of course, but with an open-air program that involves the whole city and also offers local musicians opportunities to perform.

The first details were presented on Thursday at a press conference in the historical meeting room in the city museum.

Each choir has its own concert

After the festival, which takes place every two years, had to be canceled in 2021, people are now cautiously feeling their way back into everyday life with the experience from the pandemic period.

Unlike in previous years, this year there are no ensembles from abroad, only choirs from Bavaria.

In addition, there is no joint performance, but each choir has its own concert with sacred music in the Tölz parish church.

On Ascension Day, Thursday, May 26, at 7 p.m., the Tölz Boys’ Choir sings.

This is followed by the Augsburger Domsingknaben (Friday, May 27, 7 p.m.), the Regensburger Domspatzen (Saturday, May 28, 7 p.m.) and the Windsbacher Knabenchor (Sunday, May 29, 4 p.m.).

At the last concert, the Tölz organist Christoph Heuberger will be heard as a soloist.

Free events across the city

As discussed in previous years, the festival will be broader this year, will appeal to a younger audience and involve local musicians.

"We want to be more open and bigger," says the director of the boys' choir, Barbara Schmidt-Gaden.

"All Tölz should participate." It begins with an opening concert on Wednesday, May 25, which is announced as a "surprise concert for young audiences".

It should take place in the Kurhaus.

Too much of the program was not revealed yesterday - but they want to dispel the prejudice that choral singers "can only do classical music," says Susanne Frey-Allgaier, the deputy spa director, with a wink.

There is also a supporting program in the city center throughout the festival days with open-air concerts and an open stage for local artists.

Ensembles from the singing and music school as well as the Tölz town band will be there.

Its director, conductor Josef Kronwitter, was himself a soloist in the Tölz Boys' Choir as a child.

appearances in church services

On the last day of the festival, i.e. Sunday, May 29th, there will again be top-class vocal accompaniment in the Catholic and Protestant services.

The Tölz boys' choir will split up and come to the churches.

"These should be days of polyphony in Bad Tölz," says Thomas Goppel, chairman of the association promoting the Tölz Boys' Choir.

It's time to "return to the old ways" in the cultural sector, says the former Bavarian Minister of the Arts.

He criticizes that culture is currently being disadvantaged by the pandemic rules compared to other industries.

Tickets already available exclusively from the Tourist Info

Tickets for the choir concerts are available now from Tourist Info and from the end of February from München-Ticket.

The tickets cost 32 or 28 euros depending on the category, and there is also a subscription (120 euros).

The festival will take place under the Corona rules that will then apply in May.

The tickets are currently being sold "with room for improvement", as Frey-Allgaier puts it.

The concerts that take place on the open stages are free.

A special concert on Wednesday, October 12th, is no longer officially part of the festival, but is supposed to create a connection.

The "Trinity Boys Choir" from London will perform in the parish church in the evening with the Tölzer Boys' Choir.

Works from the baroque to the modern can be heard under the title “Light and Darkness”.
