Russia had scheduled naval exercises for its Atlantic marine troop units.
They were to take place from February 3 to 8, 250 kilometers south-west of the Irish coast.
NATO viewed the project as a provocation as part of Putin's political offensive, but since these are international waters, legally the Russians had a right to it.
The plans for the Russian destroyers did not displease only NATO.
They have further irritated the Irish fishermen who ply their trade in these waters.
Not only did they protest to the Russian ambassador in Dublin, but they also announced that they would use their trawlers to peacefully disrupt Russian maneuvers.
