A 16-year-old boy was indicted and placed in pre-trial detention on Friday in Mayotte, suspected of having fatally shot a 44-year-old man who was killed with a "chombo" (coupe-coupe) on Monday in Mamoudzou, a-t -we learned from a judicial source.

This is the second murder in Mayotte in a week, after that which occurred on January 27 in Kawéni, north of the town of Mamoudzou, capital of this island in the Indian Ocean.
In the one committed Monday in the Cavani district, in front of the offices of the Mayotte Hebdo
newspaper
, a total of four minors were indicted by the Mamoudzou prosecution, for murder and complicity in murder.
The main suspect, aged 16, was imprisoned in the Majicavo penitentiary center and three others were placed under judicial control.
Altercation
In a press release, the territorial direction of the national police revealed that the victim, who had forbidden the young people access to his tool shed, had had an altercation with them in the afternoon of Monday, a few hours before the murder.
“The sister of the deceased specified that her brother had already been bothered by young people, two or three months ago, thinking that he was wealthy”

This murder moved all of Mayotte and in particular the village of Mtsapéré where the victim was from.
On Tuesday, its inhabitants had blocked the main road and expressed their exasperation with the violence and the crimes.
The Mamoudzou public prosecutor's office recorded a 25% increase in referrals for criminal acts in Mayotte in 2021, public prosecutor Yann Le Bris told the press on Thursday.
