The death toll from the corona virus in the United States as a result of Covid-19 reached more than 900,000 tonight (Saturday), according to data from Johns Hopkins University. This is less than two months after more than 800,000 deaths were counted since the outbreak. This is partly due to the highly contagious omicron variant.
The number of American victims of the plague that broke out two years ago is greater than the population of big cities like San Francisco or Charlotte. The milestone was recorded more than 13 months after the start of the vaccination campaign, which was hit by false information and political and legal quarrels. This is despite the fact that vaccines have proven to be extremely safe and effective in preventing serious illnesses and death.
Despite the wealth of the United States and its leading medical institutions in the world, the death toll from corona in the United States is the highest in the world.
"It's an astronomical number. If you had told most Americans two years ago, when this plague started, that 900 Americans would die in the next few years, I think most people would not believe it," said Dr. Ashish Kay Ja, dean of the School of Health Public at Brown University.

He regretted that most of the deaths occurred after the vaccine had been approved.
"We understood the science of medicine correctly. We failed in the social sciences. We failed in how to help people get vaccinated, to fight disinformation, without doing it it's political," Ja said.
"These are the places where we have failed as America."
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, only 64% of the population is fully vaccinated - about 212 million people.
Ja said the death toll from Corona could reach one million by April, although recent morbidity figures are encouraging and point to a possible decline in the omicron wave.
However, mortality rates are still high - more than 2,400 a day on average - the highest since last winter.
And yet, some places in the United States are considering easing restrictions.
