The corona pandemic is also affecting school operations, causing enormous pressure and uncertainty among students.
SPD boss Esken now wants additional help.
Munich – The corona virus has been affecting all areas of life for two years.
Of course, this also includes teaching in schools, which had to be adapted.
You keep hearing about models such as alternating and distance learning or homeschooling, but that doesn’t exactly make it easier for students.
Because the constantly changing process and the concern about lockdowns or school closures create uncertainty, among other things.
The students are therefore exposed to constant stress.
In order to counteract the resulting performance deficits and the psychological stress on students of all years, there is a Corona catch-up package - the students should be relieved with suitable offers and advice.
But according to SPD leader Saskia Esken, this is far from enough.
She wants an expansion of the package and the corresponding measures.
Corona pandemic: Enormous pressure on students - Social Democrat Esken wants to expand previous aid
Esken has now brought additional Corona aid for schoolchildren into play.
The catch-up package from the federal and state governments supports special measures to catch up on educational deficits.
"Because the corona pandemic is lasting longer and leaving deeper marks than expected, we have to think about whether the measures, which are mostly limited to 2021/2022, are sufficient," Esken told the
editorial network Germany (RND)
.
This urgent expansion is necessary "to support young people on a good way out of the pandemic," says Esken.
"Due to the corona restrictions, but also due to the pressure to perform and fears about the future, a psychological and mental burden has built up, especially among young people, which must not go unanswered," emphasized the SPD politician.
"With the resumption of school operations last year, performance deficits became apparent for which the students are not responsible," she also stated.
To overcome these, the students would need both support and the necessary time.
Corona policy: Students see themselves left alone and make demands
In an open letter from student representatives, which is shared online under the hashtag #WirWerdenlaut, the students accuse politicians of letting them down.
Among other things, they demand air filters in all schools, smaller learning groups and PCR pool tests.
The Education and Science Union (GEW) sees the initiative as a warning signal to those responsible for politics.
"The impression is created that politicians are letting the pandemic go through the schools - and thus endangering the health of the teachers, the students and their parents," said GEW boss Maike Finnern to the
RND
