Fans of Queen Elizabeth II will begin their journey with a symbolic stop in front of the gates of the imposing Buckingham Palace, the state residence where the sovereign lives.

From there, here is a list of five activities of all kinds to do around, a few minutes walk from the Palace of London.

A very royal exhibition at The Queen's Gallery

The Galerie de la Reine houses some of the treasures of the Royal Collection.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 2022

Located on one side of the Royal Palace, the Queen's Gallery – a small museum nestled in an old chapel, which houses some of the treasures of the Royal Collection – is currently presenting the

Masterpieces from Buckingham Palace

exhibition .

This one shows paintings by great masters belonging to the crown.

You can contemplate, among other wonders, a self-portrait by Rembrandt, a canvas by Vermeer ("

The Music Lesson

"), several Rubens, five Canalettos, but also van Dyck and Titian, as well as a self-portrait by Artemisia Gentileschi , the most famous woman painter of 17th century Italy.

Note that the paintings presented are usually hung in Buckingham Palace itself, in one of the state rooms (the Picture Gallery, precisely).

Before leaving, stop by the museum shop, full of souvenirs stamped “Buckingham Palace”.

A flowery promenade in St James' Park

The bucolic St James' Park.

After this exhibition, what could be better than a bucolic stroll in the two parks located just in front of the palace?

On the one hand, St James' Park welcomes shy crocuses this season;

and will soon be adorned, between March and April, with an abundant flowering of

daffodils

(daffodils), a flower dear to England.

We move quietly along expanses of greenery, while in the center, the lake welcomes six pelicans on its peaceful waters, and a multitude of swans, ducks and other moorhens.

It's hard to believe we're in the middle of London!

On the other side of the avenue (The Mall) overlooking the palace, Green Park will allow you to reach Piccadilly, its restaurants and hotels, Old Bond Street and the Ritz London – one of whose facades overlooks Green Park.

Along the way, you will certainly come across many squirrels, not shy for a penny.

Afternoon tea at the Ritz London

The Ritz London is an institution in London.

Press Photo/Ritz London

After your wanderings in the heart of Green Park and St James' Park,

afternoon tea is

a must. We will therefore head for the Ritz London, a real London institution, which also has the advantage of being geographically very close to the palace. It is in the

ballroom

of the Ritz London that tea is currently served, accompanied by the chords of a piano or a harp, depending. Huge bouquets of flowers enthroned on marble consoles, fine crockery, warm scones, cupcakes and tea will make up this terribly pleasant ceremony, the success of which is undeniable – and which, unusually, offers a last service at 7.30 p.m. at the Ritz London . In terms of decor, the hotel in general is grandiose, from the

Royal shopping at Fortnum & Mason

The department store is a bustling place loaded with flavor.

Anastasia Chelini

Located a few steps from the Ritz London, the Fortnum&Mason department store is one of the must-haves to sacrifice in London.

This very popular address has it all.

On its main facade, a clock comes alive as the hours pass, and sees two small characters (Mrs. William Fortnum and Hugh Mason) come out of the dial and greet each other.

Inside the store, from the ground floor to the basement, a multitude of taste souvenirs and teas compete for customer preference.

In particular, you will find a whole range of foodstuffs from the organic estate of Highgrove, property of Prince Charles;

where dry biscuits, wines, herbal teas and other

puddings

stamped with the princely domain are produced.

Upstairs, crockery and tableware, perfumery and stationery complete the selection.

Finally, we can sit down for an Afternoon Tea, preferably at the Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon on the 4th floor (but there are other cafés/restaurants in the department store).

And to stick perfectly to the news, Fortnum&Mason has launched a competition for the best pudding, in honor of the queen and her new jubilee.

Visit to the Royal Academy of Arts

The Royal Academy of Arts is currently hosting an exhibition dedicated to Francis Bacon.

Anastasia Chelini

Located directly opposite Fortnum&Mason, the Royal Academy of Arts, which takes place within Burlington House, is one of the UK's top artistic and cultural venues. It currently hosts an exhibition dedicated to Francis Bacon, entitled “Francis Bacon: Man and Beast”. From this original angle, the exhibition explores the impact that the in-depth study of animals (their movements and shapes) had on Bacon in his pictorial treatment of human beings. Several triptychs are to be found in the exhibition, a mode of composition that Bacon was particularly fond of.

The whole presents Bacon's usual questioning of human nature, his animality/bestiality, which he shows through a prism that is always tormented and suffering.

Until April 17.

(Note that the RA is also hosting an exhibition dedicated to Constable, which will end on February 13).

Price: from 26 euros for the exhibition on Bacon, from 22.6 euros for the exhibition on Constable.

Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.;

online tickets only.

then

Bond Street

offer unlimited shopping possibilities.

's house is located ;

and next door, the

museum .
